Here’s a rather special event which members are sure to be interested in attending. The talk has already been moved from the school hall to the local village hall, so expect a good turnout for what promises to be a very enjoyable evening.

AROUND THE WORLD BY BICYCLE
An illustrated talk by Josie Dew

Local cyclist Josie Dew has cycled 457,000 miles across 6 continents and 49 countries (some of them by accident). The survivor of several wonky knees and a handful of bottom brackets, she is still firmly fixed in the saddle.
Josie will take you on a whirlwind tour around the world describing what it is like to cycle alone across America, around Japan, Iceland, India, Hawaii, New Zealand and North Africa among other places. She will also be showing pictures of her two trips this year – cycling 1000 miles across Holland, Germany and Denmark with her two young daughters.
Tickets £10
(All proceeds go to supporting cycling projects at Hollycombe School)
Ticket price includes a glass of wine or soft drink, as many of Josie’s homemade biscuits and chocolate flapjacks as you can eat (doggy bags can be provided for the still hungry) and a free puncture repair kit.

NEW Cycle Tops ~ get your order in quick!

Another order for the new cycle tops is about to be placed. If you want one – and let’s face it, how could you not! – you need to leap into action within the next couple of days.

Pease advise John Murdoch (ridessecretary@ctcwestsurrey.org.uk) by Sunday 13th January at the latest, specifying size (small, medium, large, XL or XLL, bearing in mind that the jerseys are sized to be “snug”, so you may therefore require a larger size than normal) and whether short or long sleeved.  The price (£36.50 for short sleeved and £39.50 for long sleeved) is based on putting an order in for at least 10 shirts, and we will order at least that number this time. If you miss this order then it may be a while before we are able to place a further order at such a favourable price.

CTC West Surrey ~ Grand Nosh or The BIG Dinner

It’s been some time since we held a dinner but, following expressions of interest at last November’s AGM, your Committee has organised one which we very much hope you will want to come to. You’re most welcome to bring a friend or two along with you.

Date & Time: Saturday 9th February 2013 at 19.30 hours.

Main Course:
(a) Pan seared breast of chicken, thyme potato cake, creamy mushroom reduction

West Surrey Tour to Austria ????

 Ah…. Sound of Music land, fabulous mountain scenery and a route planned by an expert (Chris Juden). Chris says this of the tour (which has completely filled after just a few days on the CTC H&T website and is thus no longer visible except to us tour leaders):

Short days and rest days will provide many opportunities for sightseeing or relaxing. In addition to spectacular alpine scenery, the sights include picturesque towns and villages, churches, castles and caverns.

Chris has asked if I would like to lead a repeat tour. Well, yes, I would, perhaps as a bona fide CTC tour, or perhaps as a friendly little West Surrey expedition. Several West Surrey folk managed to get on Chris’ tour, several others weren’t quite quick enough and didn’t.

The plan so far is to see if there are enough of us to make up a group (of perhaps ten?). The tour is about 13 days of riding and rest days. It’s up to you how you get to Salzburg – train, plane or car – I plan at this stage to drive and could take three people, taking two days to make it comfortable. Suggested departure date is 4 July 2013, so the return date would be 18 / 19 / 20 July depending on your travel arrangements.

Godalming & Guildford Wayfarers Christmas Lunch

There was a great turnout at this excellent event – first time for me! The brave among us cycled to the King William IV pub in West Horsley, whilst others (me included) decided it was really a bit too icy. Shame because the sun was shining. Hilary gave a brief speech, principally to thank Peter Fennemore for all his hard work in making these rides happen. Hurrah! Thanks, Peter!
