Charity Ride for the halow project

Halow Project Image

Hello,

My name is Hannah Adair and I work for the halow project, a Guildford based charity supporting young adults with a learning disability across Surrey.

The halow project is currently recruiting for the halow250 charity bike ride which is on 2nd May- 4th May 2014, 250 miles in 48 hours taking in some of the best English and French countryside. The ride has a unique route and is our premiere fundraising event of the year aiming to raise significant funds for our work helping young people with a learning disability live the life they choose, as independently as possible. I was wondering whether you could help us promote this event to your members and supporters as this year we are aiming to have 100 riders in the event?

I have attached some information on this fantastic ride and pdf of a poster which perhaps you may consider advertising to your members? I would be happy to send hard copies of the poster and also we have a photo and short description which you could use in a newsletter, facebook page or twitter if you would prefer.

Information on the route and how to sign up can be found at the event website  www.halow250.org.uk and information on our work with young people at  www.halowproject.org.uk

Many thanks in advance for your kind attention to this email. We would be delighted if you were able to help us recruit more riders for this amazing ride, the halow250. Please do let me know if you would be able to assist us in any way.

 With our very best wishes,

 Hannah

Annual Dinner 2014

John Murdoch writes…

The details for this year’s Annual Dinner have taken longer to finalise than expected, as The Mill at Elstead was unfortunately flooded at Christmas.  Initially it was thought that they would reopen by the beginning of March, but the damage was worse than they had first believed, so now it will be mid-March at the earliest.  It was therefore necessary to find an alternative venue, which has now been done, enabling us to retain the date of 1 March.

The important information is as follows:-

Date  –  1 March

Venue  – The Princess Royal, Guildford Road, Runfold, Farnham, GU10 1NX

Time  –  7.00 for 7.30 meal

Guest Speaker –  Josie Dew, cyclist, adventurer, writer, cook, mum…  and CTC Vice President.  It is a real honour that Josie has agreed to be our guest, and will be coming along with her husband, Gary, and 6 month old son, Jack.  I have heard her speak before, and can vouch for the fact that she is very entertaining, with a wealth of amazing stories.

Menu  – see below

Cost  –  £18 for 2 courses, or £24 for 3 courses

Booking  –  I will need your menu choices and full payment by Wednesday 19 February at the very latest (no need for any prior deposit); please hand to me on a ride, or send to me at 4 Park Avenue, Camberley, Surrey GU15 2NQ, making cheques payable to CTC West Surrey.  If you no longer use cheques and wish to pay electronically, please contact me on johnmatsouthview@btinternet.com, and I will advise you of the Club’s bank details.
Although I quote the latest date for booking above, I would much appreciate early booking, so that I know that we have sufficient numbers to make this a viable event – so why not do it right now.  I certainly hope that it will be well supported, last year’s dinner appeared to be well received, and with such a superb guest speaker (and a reasonably priced meal, I am sure you will agree), I am really hoping that this will be a successful social event.

The Farnham Cycle Challenge

From Sophie Colwell, Events Manager of Disability Challengers.org
Dear friends,
I am contacting you from local Children’s Charity Challengers (providers of play and leisure to disabled children and young people in Surrey & Hampshire).  On Sunday May 11th we are holding a brand new event that I wondered if you and your club could be interested in – “The Farnham Cycle Challenge”.
Starting and finishing at Farnham Park this is a fantastic event for everyone of any ability. There is the choice of a 45 or 23 miles cycle along the quiet and stunning country lanes of Hampshire and a fun ride through the park for those not quite ready for the roads. All proceeds from this event go directly to Challengers.
For more information please feel free to contact me or go to the event website www.kellystore.org
We would love to have as many local people supporting us at this event as possible, for more information on Challengers please visit our website – www.disability-challengers.org
I hope to see you there
Best wishes
Sophie

Wednesday Ride ~ 8 January 2014

Lots of riders out, amazingly mild weather – and the rain stopped for the day. Louise wished everyone a Happy New Year with kisses on both cheeks – how many in total, Louise? – and some great cycling, particularly the group I rode with: can’t speak for the others. The route went something like this (from my house):

Or check it out in more detail here: http://www.strava.com/activities/104859264

Being a darkish sort of a day, though the sun did show its face a little, some of the photos taken on the day could be a little sharper.

Annual Dinner 2014

John Murdoch writes….

Please note that the Annual Dinner and awards presentation will now be held on

Saturday 1 March 2014

and not 25 January as suggested as a likely date in the latest issue of the West Surrey Cyclist, although the venue remains as The Mill at Elstead.

Full details, including menu choices, time, cost, and booking arrangements will be published on the website early in the New Year.

Alternatively, send a blank e-mail to me at ridessecretary@ctcwestsurrey.org.uk, with just “CTC Dinner” in the heading, and I will send those details directly to you as soon as they are available.

Meanwhile, I suggest you reserve the date now, as it promises to be an excellent evening.  As previously advised, Josie Dew has kindly agreed to join us as a guest (with her husband and baby as well!) and will present the awards, some serious and some less so.
