RideLondon 100 Charity Places (again!)

The club has received several approaches inviting WSCTC members to apply for charity places on the Prudential Ride 100 ride on Sunday 4 August 2019 (and we already have 2 blog posts on this topic from other charities).  Rather than bombard the web site with multiple blogs, here’s a quick summary of the approaches we have had (this will be updated if we have more requests):

Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) – details at www.rnib.org.uk/ridelondon

UNICEF – details at unicef.uk/ridelondon

Genetic Disorders UK – details at http://www.geneticdisordersuk.org/getinvolved/cycle#prudentialridelondon

Oakleaf Enterprises – details at https://www.oakleaf-enterprise.org/ridelondon1002019/

Action for Children – details at  https://www.actionforchildren.org.uk/how-to-help/fundraising-events/prudential-ridelondon-surrey-100/ only £50 registration and £50 minimum sponsorship. Email Megan

So, that’s plenty of options to choose from if you would like to participate in this impressive closed road event whilst helping to support these very worthy charities.

Annual Dinner 2 March

Just a quick reminder that if you wish to attend the annual dinner and awards presentation on Saturday 2nd March, you should contact me in the next couple of days. We have plenty of bookings, but there is plenty of space for more. John

Cyclists needed

We have received this request from 2 students at the University of Surrey. ( I think Level 3 cyclists are those who occasionally do Sportives and time trials)

We are looking for level 3+ cyclists to be involved in a study on ‘The effects of carbohydrate mouth rinsing on time trial performance’

We are 3rd year students at the University of Surrey and completing this study as part of our dissertation.
Details on the study can be found on the attached poster. We would be very grateful if you could share this to any level 3+ cyclists who may be interested in taking part.

Thank you in advance, we appreciate any help you can provide.

Kind regards,

Georgina Grimble and Sadie Lock

Annual dinner 2nd March 2019

As previously advised, the Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation will take place on Saturday 2nd March, 7.00 for 7.30. We will again be returning to the Princess Royal at Runfold, although this year there will be a buffet meal.  This means that there should be more opportunity to mingle and socialise.  It also means that the cost can be kept low, just £12 per head, avoiding a hefty increase that would have applied for a more formal dinner. The menu is:- Mains Meatballs in tomato sauceBeef and mushroom stroganoffChicken tikka masalaMushroom & spinach lasagne (vegetarian option) Sides Chunky chipsSteamed riceWatercress, baby gem and herb salad Puddings Apple crumble (by popular demand!)Profiteroles, chocolate sauceVanilla cheesecake
Please book your places by e-mailing me at johnmatsouthview@btinternet.com, and I will advise how to make payment online.  As it is a buffet, a specific pre-order will not be required, but please let me now your first choice of main and pudding so that order quantities for each of the options can take account of popularity. In order to make sure that all members are advised of the dinner, I am also e-mailing all individual groups, so that if you are on the mailing list for more than one group, and have also signed up for alerts re Latest Posts, you will receive duplicate e-mails.
All orders should be placed by Thursday 21st February latest; why not do it today? John

Ride London 2019

About the charity

We have received a request to promote this charity who is recruiting cyclists to ride for them in this year’s Ride London event:

Genetic Disorders UK is a registered charity (Registered Charity Number 1141583) with a vision to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by genetic disorders.

While individual genetic disorders are rare, it is thought that there are currently more than 6,000 diagnosed disorders and new disorders are being identified every day.

It is estimated that 1 in 25 children is affected by a genetic disorder. This means that in the UK, 30,000 babies and children are newly diagnosed each year and more than half a million children and adults are living with a genetic disorder.

Our mission is to be the leading source of information and support for both those affected by a genetic disorder, and the charities and patient groups that support them, by bringing together everyone’s combined experience in a place it can be shared.
