We have received the following letter from the organiser of the revived York Rally, which some of you may be interested in:
I am writing on behalf of the group of volunteers who are reviving the York Rally, which as you may know was cancelled after the 2012 event, bringing to an end an almost 70-year run, as the CTC York Rally and later the York Cycle Show.
We are happy to say that after a year of fundraising we will be reviving the event, as the York Rally, and will be staging it on the Knavesmire on the 20-21st June 2015, and we would very much appreciate your assistance in letting your members know that the Rally has returned!
The revived Rally is not being run as a CTC event, but we know that it has been a treasured part of many CTC members’ cycling year for decades, and that many members would enjoy coming to York, meeting old friends and going on rides as they have for many years.

As you will see, we are organising a selection of traditional Rally activities (rides, grasstrack racing, saddlebag and auction sales, live music from the Foresters) as well as new attractions in the form of a ‘Pedal Power Invention Convention’ and Cyclo-Cross racing, and more!
There will, as in previous years, be a traditional campsite on site with separate areas for lightweight and motorised campers. If you could mention that earlybird (=cheaper!) bookings for the campsite close on the 6th April that would be fantastic. People can book campsite pitches online via the website, or by post using this form, and early bookings are very much appreciated to help offset the advance costs of the event.

The 100 mile and 75 mile rides, which this year are on Sunday 19th July, have for the past few years started and finished at Goal Farm Golf Club. This has now closed, so I’m looking for a new start and finish location.
I don’t want to make a major change to the route for this year, so I’d like to find somewhere fairly close. One obvious possibility is to return to Pirbright Village Hall and I’m also looking at Worplesdon Village Hall, which is closer to me and for which I would, as a Worplesdon resident, get a concessionary rate for room hire.
I would welcome comments on this move, any other suggestions for the start and finish location and also a volunteer or two to provide tea and coffee at the start and finish.

I work in the Events team at Sense, the National Deafblind charity, and I wanted to get in touch as we have guaranteed places available on our team for Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 on Sunday 2nd August and we’d love for the members of West Surrey CTC to get involved.
No doubt you are already aware of this event, which takes riders 100 miles on closed roads through central London and into the beautiful Surrey countryside, tackling the iconic Leith Hill and Box Hill along the way. It’s hugely popular and is always over-subscribed; this year around 25,000 riders are expected the cross the line.
We appreciate that riding for a charity and fundraising can sometimes be a sticking point, particularly among club riders who frequently miss out on places via the public ballot. Therefore, we have carefully calculated the costs involved and have managed to bring our general sponsorship target down to £489.
For the members of West Surrey CTC we are happy to bring this down even further to just £450!
To secure your place, you just need to visit our website and pay a registration fee of £20 (referencing your club name on the application form).
