London to Brighton Bike Ride – 19 June

We have received the following message from Arron Trott from the WWF who are offering places on the London to Brighton Ride:

My name is Arron and I am Events Fundraising Manager at WWF, based at our Woking office. I am looking after cyclists taking on the London to Brighton Bike Ride in aid of WWF.

As a local cycling club, I’d like to offer your members a free place in the event if this would be of interest? Additionally, there would be no minimum fundraising commitment, although  we’d genuinely appreciate any efforts to raise sponsorship for us should they choose.

AGM 28 May

Please note that the club’s Annual General Meeting will take place on Saturday 28 May, starting at 10.00am at the Jack Phillips Pub in Godalming.
The committee decided that we should go back to an in-person meeting this year, after last year’s virtual AGM, in order to provide an opportunity for club members across the various riding groups to meet up in a social setting.  We realise, of course, that the problems associated with the Covid virus have not disappeared, and that some members might be reluctant to attend a meeting.  With that in mind, we will endeavour to set up a Zoom link to the meeting to provide an option to join remotely.  Details of this will follow closer to the time.
I hope that as many members as possible will make an effort to attend the AGM.  It provides an opportunity to discuss developments in your club and to provide feedback and ideas to the committee.  We would not expect the meeting to last much more than an hour.
I’d like to remind you that any notices or motions to be put to the AGM must be lodged with the club secretary Nick Davison at least 2 weeks prior to the AGM (ie by 14 May).
I hope you are have been able to enjoy the wonderful cycling weather over the last week or so.  It really is time to look forward to the summer cycling months.

Charlotteville CC Women’s Open Rides

Our friends at Charlotteville Cycling Club (based in Guildford) have been in touch about a new initiative to encourage more women to discover the joys of road bike cycling.  Their Women’s Open Rides, which are being organised by Elodie Hudson at Charlotteville, will run from Stoke Park in Guildford starting at 6pm on Tuesday evenings,from 12 April 2022.  The rides, which will last 1-1.5 hours, are open to all, and will go at a pace to suit everyone in the group.

WSCC Rides and Covid Risks

Although government restrictions have been removed, and many of the health risks associated with Covid have eased, the virus is still circulating widely and a number of club members have suffered from Covid infections in recent weeks.  When infection does strike, its impact on health and wellbeing is often very unpleasant, and can in some cases be dangerous.  

Ultimately, everyone must take personal responsibility for the risks they are prepared to take when mixing with others, but the committee has decided that we should take reasonable steps to reduce the risk of infection whilst on club rides.  With that in mind, we have agreed that the following rules should apply to WSCC rides:

Please do not attend club rides if any one or more of the following applies:

  • You are testing positive for Covid;
  • You are at risk of infection from sharing a house with someone who is testing positive for Covid (even if you yourself are testing negative – the early stages of infection are often not detected by LFTs); or
  • You exhibit any of the cold and flu-like symptoms associated with Covid infection (sore throats, coughing, high temperature etc.)

We anticipate that these rules, which are designed to protect all members, will need to remain in place for the foreseeable future.  Your cooperation is appreciated.

Paul Gillingham funeral arrangements – Thursday 24 March

Following the very sad news of Paul’s death, please note that his funeral will take place at midday on Thursday 24 March at St Nicholas’ Church in Chaldon Herring, Dorset, with the wake a short cycle ride away at Winfrith Village Hall, from 1.30pm.  A number of club members are planning to attend, and if there are any more who would like to join them please contact me and I can pass on the RSVP details.
