The start point for 6 WSCC riders joining the WADR around the Kennet Valley was the Mereoak Park & Ride just off junction 11 near Reading.
The route took us west toward Thatcham and coffee was at RAF Greenham Common. After delicious lime and zucchini cake, we went upstairs to the control tower and heard about the 96 cruise missiles that had been stored at the base in the 19080s and the various Hollywood block busters that have been filmed in the dis-used bunkers. Onwards our route took us on quiet country lanes through picturesque villages with thatched cottages and near to Highclere Castle (of Downtown Abbey fame). Lunch was at the Red Lion in Chieveley before returning under/over the M4 a few times to the finish.
A wonderful day out, 63 miles and 2,900 ft of climbing.
