Ride London 2019

About the charity

We have received a request to promote this charity who is recruiting cyclists to ride for them in this year’s Ride London event:

Genetic Disorders UK is a registered charity (Registered Charity Number 1141583) with a vision to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by genetic disorders.

While individual genetic disorders are rare, it is thought that there are currently more than 6,000 diagnosed disorders and new disorders are being identified every day.

It is estimated that 1 in 25 children is affected by a genetic disorder. This means that in the UK, 30,000 babies and children are newly diagnosed each year and more than half a million children and adults are living with a genetic disorder.

Our mission is to be the leading source of information and support for both those affected by a genetic disorder, and the charities and patient groups that support them, by bringing together everyone’s combined experience in a place it can be shared.

More info is on our website: http://www.geneticdisordersuk.org/getinvolved/cycle#prudentialridelondon

Prudential Ride London, 2019 – Charity Places available

For anyone who was unsuccessful in the recent ballot, or who just fancies the challenge of participating in this year’s Prudential Ride 100 (on 4 August 2019, 100 miles on closed roads, starting at the Olympic Park and ending on the Mall via the Surrey hills), you might like to know that Oakleaf Enterprises, a locally based charity that works to provide vocational training for those suffering from mental health issues, has up to 30 charity places available for anyone who can commit to raising at least £250 for the charity.  In addition to a place on the ride, you will get a personalised Oakleaf cycling top and support for completing the Ride 100 application.

For further details and an application form, click here or send an email to elibeckett@oakleaf-enterprise.org for full details.

2018 Photo competition – and the winner is……

After a long (and heated!) discussion, the committee finally agreed a winner for our 2018 Photo competition.

Over 60 excellent entries were received and it was very difficult to make a unanimous decision, however the winner was eventually deemed to be:

Derek Tanner

with his very wet ride photo.

You can see all the other submitted entries below – sorry if you don’t agree, but the Committee’s decision is final!

Cycling Holiday in the Peak District 7-9 May 2019

A group of cyclists from West Surrey CTC are heading to the Peak District in May to explore this area by bike. We have reserved several rooms at the special rate of £60 single room / £80 double room at the Manifold Inn in Hulme End near Hartington (www.themanifoldinn.co.uk). The rooms are currently reserved for three nights from 7-9 May, but there is the option of adding an additional night on the Bank Holiday Monday 6 May. Some cyclists in the group have opted to rent cottages nearby for the entire week. There will be led rides every day visiting nearby places of interest.

If you would like to join us for this adventure, please contact Hilary Stephenson for further information (hilary878@btinternet.com). You can book rooms directly with the hotel with a 10% deposit and mention that you are part of the cycling group. Please let Hilary know if you are planning to go that we have an overview of numbers. Eleven cyclists have signed up so far. Non-cycling partners are welcome to join us and there are plenty of opportunities for them to enjoy walking or other activities whilst we are out cycling.

Happy cycling!
