Tour of the Hills 21st August – Marshals required

The Tour of the Hills on 21st August is our major event of the year, and the one for which the support of members is essential.  One basic requirement is to have sufficient marshals to man all the required points along the route.  I therefore require volunteers for this role, please contact me as soon as you can if you are able to help, e-mailing me on johnmatsouthview@btinternet.com.  It is not necessary to have previous experience, indeed it would be nice to have wider support, perhaps from newer members, and not rely solely on those who have contributed so much over previous years.  When volunteering, please specify your preference e.g. early, late control; location – closer to Guildford or further away; the earlier you volunteer the more likely it will be that I will be able to accommodate your preferences.  Naturally, the more volunteers I receive, the lighter will be the demands on individuals.
Please support your Club – I look forward to hearing from you.

Due to the rain forecast tomorrow the G3 ride has been postponed until the following day.

Hope to see you in Micheldever on Thursday, same time.

Record Turnout and Weather at the Elstead Audaxes on 5th June

With a record 90 riders taking part in the three events and a forecast of 25 degrees the day was a roaring success.

Teamwork moved up a gear to meet the high numbers with Peter and Christine Hackman still producing their high catering standards; Elizabeth Weatherburn and Marion Davison gave valuable assistance in the kitchen whilst  Bob and Nick handled the record keeping.

It was a great day for the Club with eight riders from the Sunday All Day Group on the Danebury 150k event.

Short weekend rides – leaders required

I have long believed that we should be providing short and quite quick weekend rides for our members, and also believe that the demand is there.  However, in order to add such rides to the programme, we need ride leaders prepared to take on such rides.
My proposal is that we add rides on a Saturday morning, starting at 9.30, c 35 miles, at a pace of about 15 mph.  No coffee stop, so you should be back by 12.00.  By arranging these for a Saturday, it should not affect all the regular Sunday rides.
I would be happy to  lead such rides once a month, but naturally require further ride leader volunteers.  Please let me know if you are happy to take this on, if I can get 3 more volunteers then it will a commitment for only once a month.  If you are not already a registered ride leader, please do not think that you cannot put your name forward, we are always needing new ride leaders, and the procedure for adding new ride leaders is straightforward, designed simply to make sure that those who are lead on rides are protected by a responsible and experienced rider.
Please contact me direct if you are happy to volunteer.  Once I have the necessary commitment I will draw up a rides programme, which will be shown on the Rides Calendar.
