Another offer to take a place on Prudential Ride London on 9 August, but with the additional offer for a place on NightRider on 7-8 June, through the charity Blind Veterans UK The charity provide vision impaired Armed Forces and National Service veterans with the person-centred services and tailored support they need to discover life beyond sight loss. Their work ranges from helping veterans relearn vital life skills and providing them with the tools they need to be independent in their own homes, to offering new learning, training and recreation opportunities and providing long-term nursing, residential and respite care. To secure your place or if you have any questions about either event, contact Aaron on 020 7616 7927 or email fundraising@blindveterans.org.uk
There is another charity that has places for the Prudential Ride London, Woking and Sam Beare Hospices, and it may be of particular interest to our members as it is a very worthy local charity. A minimum of £500 sponsorship is required to book a place; if you are interested just contact the charity to obtain an Application Form, or if you would like any more information then please contact Rosie Gibbons on r.gibbons@wsbhospices.co.uk or 01483 881752 John M
I have been advised that Leuka have a few Prudential RideLondon places left. They are a charity that works towards research into leukaemia and other blood cancers and support determined young scientists at Imperial College/Hammersmith Hospital. If anyone is interested, details are provided at:- http://www.leuka.org.uk/prudential-ridelondon-2014/ John M
Good numbers out today despite the weather not quite knowing what it was going to do. In the end it turned into a sunny afternoon. Forsaking the faster section on this occasion, your scribe started the ride at Watts Gallery’s tea shop and joined the intermediate group for a pleasant ride south to Loxwood, via Bramley, Thorncombe Street and Dunsfold. You can view the route here: http://www.strava.com/activities/122092424
Lunch was taken at the Onslow Arms on the canal at Loxwood and we were able to sit outside which is always a bonus.
After lunch we all rode on to Plaistow where the group split up bound for our various final destinations. Mention should be given to Carol who was last seen heading off with Miriam towards the Blackdown massif muttering about the need to ‘get the miles in’. Good on yer, Carol!
