For those who are interested, there have been some comments on my recent post ‘Subscribe to the Forum’, but someone has suggested that they will not have generated automatic emails which will draw your attention to them and that such an email is desirable. Hence this post; I apologise if you consider it to be unnecessary.
I have recently subscribed to the Forum and it seems to me that you also need to subscribe to each Post to be notified by email when there are comments. On my desk-top computer, when I’m logged-in, I see a ‘Subscribe’ link at the top right-hand corner of a new post. This makes sense, as it means you can follow the discussions you are interested in without getting notifications about all of them.
I’m not sure about this – it’s based purely on observation rather than knowledge – but I suspect that subscribing to a forum results in one being informed when a new topic is started, but not when new replies are made to old topics. Certainly that’s what I see, but it’s such a long time since I subscribed to the forum I’ve no idea whether I chose between different levels of being informed.
I thought that’s what we were ready getting?
Perhaps John can set up an email notification system for the Forum too. Obviously if the forum starts getting busy people may wish to opt out, but with so few items being put up there’s currently no chance of overdosing…
I don’t think John needs to set anything up. You can subscribe to a forum, as my original post pointed out.
