Wednesday Intermediates Ride ~ 19 March 14

Good numbers out today despite the weather not quite knowing what it was going to do. In the end it turned into a sunny afternoon. Forsaking the faster section on this occasion, your scribe started the ride at Watts Gallery’s tea shop and joined the intermediate group for a pleasant ride south to Loxwood, via Bramley, Thorncombe Street and Dunsfold. You can view the route here: http://www.strava.com/activities/122092424 Lunch was taken at the Onslow Arms on the canal at Loxwood and we were able to sit outside which is always a bonus. After lunch we all rode on to Plaistow where the group split up bound for our various final destinations. Mention should be given to Carol who was last seen heading off with Miriam towards the Blackdown massif muttering about the need to ‘get the miles in’. Good on yer, Carol!

Wednesday Ride ~ 12 March 2014

The cold, misty start might have put some off, but anyone who kept his eye on the weather forecast would have known that this was just the precursor to a beautiful day; and that’s just how it turned out to be. A good number of riders gathered in Mayford for a ride to the Canal Centre in Mytchett before the various groups went their separate ways. The faster bunch headed through Farnborough and out the other side into attractive Berkshire countryside, doing a loop before taking lunch at the Leather Bottle in Mattingly – we even had it in the pub garden, it was so warm and sunny. The group separated as people headed off back towards their respective home areas once we’d got back to the Farnborough area. It was another very enjoyable ride and all thanks to John for leading it.

A Letter from Louise & A Response from Mark

Dear fellow club members, I wish to make you aware of my decision to resign as Chair of West Surrey CTC. This will become effective today, 6th March 2014. I will also suspend my ride leading role and will re-consider this latter decision in the autumn. Behind the curtain of our thoroughly enjoyable rides and events programme, and thus somewhat invisible to most riders, quite a bit has been set in motion in the 4 month period since AGM 2013. In addition to regular club business, a titanic amount of effort by a few members has been channelled into various initiatives: – the complete re-design of a new website – bringing compliance with CTC policies to ensure valid liability insurance cover for our members – clarifying for our ride leaders what needs to be done in case of accident – conducting the first of a series of “Ride Leader/Back Marker
